Why is is that ...
Feb. 5th, 2007 09:21 pm... as soon as it gets cold, I lose both pairs of gloves?*
... the lightbulbs to blow are always the really specialised ones that you can't buy at the corner shop or supermarket?
... the day you want to leave work early, you get a phone call just as you're about to go?
... the compost you think will make a nice warm home for your seeds turns out to be a nice warm home for something else - something with a long tail?**
... the Magnus Magnusson tribute programme seems to include clips of every Mastermind champion bar one - the one you're related to?***
... the general feeling of under-the-weather-ness arrives just a few days before what will be, without a doubt, the social highlight of the year?
EDIT:
*which then turn up as soon as I've bought a new pair; oh well, at least now I've got one pair to leave at home, one pair to leave at the office, and one pair to leave on the train.
**and the Council's pest control service now charge £39.50 to deal with these things; and I'm going to have to be at home to sign for the poisons.
***although he says he caught a glimpse of himself.

Date: 2007-02-05 09:46 pm (UTC)As for the social highlight of the year, I'm sure it will feel even better when contrasted against a backdrop of various annoying misfortunes preceding it.

Date: 2007-02-06 01:07 pm (UTC)I ahve to say that I'm not impressed with the legions of neighbourhood cats who inhabit our garden*. They do a good job of scaring away the birds; why not the rats? (Mind you, this rat was nearly as large as some of the cats ... )
*It seems to be on the edge of several territories.

Date: 2007-02-06 12:36 pm (UTC)Sounds like you need your gloves attached to each other with a piece of string through the sleeves of your coat, like they do for small children!

Date: 2007-02-06 02:33 pm (UTC)Oh yes I know that one and it's always someone who says 'This won't take a minute' and it never does.
Glad to hear you found your gloves again. I lost one of mine last year, went back to the shop to buy another pair, only to find they only had 1 solitary glove left. Persuaded them that I really did want to buy 1 glove, got it for half price and then found the lost one when I got home. Still, I now have a spare in case I ever loose one again
