... as soon as it gets cold, I lose both pairs of gloves?*
... the lightbulbs to blow are always the really specialised ones that you can't buy at the corner shop or supermarket?
... the day you want to leave work early, you get a phone call just as you're about to go?
... the compost you think will make a nice warm home for your seeds turns out to be a nice warm home for something else - something with a long tail?**
... the Magnus Magnusson tribute programme seems to include clips of every Mastermind champion bar one - the one you're related to?***
... the general feeling of under-the-weather-ness arrives just a few days before what will be, without a doubt, the social highlight of the year?

EDIT:
*which then turn up as soon as I've bought a new pair; oh well, at least now I've got one pair to leave at home, one pair to leave at the office, and one pair to leave on the train.

Ouch. On the other hand, this time is apparently supposed to be the most depressing time of the year, so I guess it's predictable even if bloody annoying. *hugs etc*

As for the social highlight of the year, I'm sure it will feel even better when contrasted against a backdrop of various annoying misfortunes preceding it.

Thank you :-)

Will we be seeing you on Saturday?

You certainly will be. However, I do vaguely intend to continue my habit of lurking in the bag area. :)

They're welcome to take it on if they want to!

It's just a shame I wasn't holding the spade at the time ...

Yep. A big one, too.

My theory is that the Tailed Compost Thing has stolen your gloves. Very probably it telephoned you just as you were about to come home as well. :-p

The glove thing holds true for children's shoes as well. No2 son has lost ONE shoe.

I suggest you search on the hard shoulder on any motorway in the country. That always seems to be where the odd shoes turn up that fall through the holes in space time. :)

Perhaps it works for gloves too?

Thank you.

I had a meeting with my boss this morning, which seemed to go quite well; so maybe things are looking up ;-)

Thank you!

I ahve to say that I'm not impressed with the legions of neighbourhood cats who inhabit our garden*. They do a good job of scaring away the birds; why not the rats? (Mind you, this rat was nearly as large as some of the cats ... )

*It seems to be on the edge of several territories.

I suspect most cats aren't up to large rats. Kjetil can handle them (he eats their heads - ew) , but the rest of them tend to look away in embarrassment at anything that large.

What you really need is a couple of terriers!

I lose both pairs of gloves

Sounds like you need your gloves attached to each other with a piece of string through the sleeves of your coat, like they do for small children!

Oh yes I know that one and it's always someone who says 'This won't take a minute' and it never does.

Glad to hear you found your gloves again. I lost one of mine last year, went back to the shop to buy another pair, only to find they only had 1 solitary glove left. Persuaded them that I really did want to buy 1 glove, got it for half price and then found the lost one when I got home. Still, I now have a spare in case I ever loose one again

...thus ensuring that the glove you lose will be for the hand for which you *don't* have the spare ;-)
