We have a lot more bottles of wine. I haven't counted, but I suspect around a hundred. We usually holiday in wine areas and bring back half a dozen cases or more, many to put down for some while. The husband is a real wine geek.

Beer we have on an ad hoc basis (ad hic?) but around 4 - 8 at a given time. As for spirits, there have to be more than 20 if you count liqueurs, but some haven't been touched for years.

Even so I sometimes go days without any booze at all.

It just so happens we do not have beer at the moment, and that we need to order some more wine... Some of the bottles of spirits/liqueurs have been there for years, but we always have gin, vodka, Scotch, rum, brandy Cointreau and vermouth. (i.e. we always have the makings of White Ladies and Dry Martinis.)

You have the essentials, then.

I haev two bottles of spirits in the house, so ticked 0 as the closest ;-) However the 0 for beer is intended and eternal (unless I have guests).

I do enjoy food cooked with beer, but I don't think I've ever cooked it myself! I suppose it would be under the same circumstances - with friends who would drink the remainder.

Yes, I see the problem.

Should we interpret beer to include cider, ginger beer etc? (things of comparable strength to beer that you'd expect to have in pints)

Yes, we should.

We might have more than zero beer if my daughter and I hadn't drunk it...

We did just remark--as I opened a bottle for supper (I'd cooked: I deserved) and M picked a bottle to take out--that we were low on wine. And I have promised offspring a change of wine order so she can see if she'd like pink.

Perhaps you can let us know how the experiment goes.

In our defence, we have so many because of our homebrew experiments.

That sounds a pretty reasonable defence :-)

I think so, especially since some of it takes 2 years to mature!

If you ask about "proper" ie bought bottles, we have whatever's left of a box of 12 riesling that we buy from a vinyard we love when we go upto Hanmer Springs once or twice a year (probably half a dozen left? maybe more) and about the same assorted other bottles of wine. For beer, we usually have a box of Crabbies Ginger beer and a box of Speights on the go at any given time. The Speights box holds 24 small bottles - there are 5 remaining - and the Crabbies holds 12 and hasn't been opened yet. Oh, and I think I have a couple of those small 250 ml bottles of wine somewhere in the fridge.

We have 200+ bottles of wine, about half put down for the future. Just realized we're getting low on drinkable!

3 bottles of beer
3 bottles of wine (2 of them Not Ours, alas)
various assorted spirits, some of them Not Ours
A demijohn of elderberry, which I really should get around to decanting into bottles.
For some reason, a great deal of tonic water (neither of us drink tonic water).

We have tonic water that I bought for my parents last time* they came down, so they could have their gin and tonic. Then they didn't have any.

*Or possibly the time before last.

Now it is getting warm again, I may drink it while sitting out in the garden.

Why do you have wine and spirits that are Not Yours?

We have a taste for ginless g&ts in summer - tonic water with lime and lemon and ice but no gin (perhaps we're doing it wrong!). It's good to have long drinks of refridgerated fluid in the middle of the day when you don't want alcohol - it gets very hot here in summer and it's hard to drink enough fluid some days. Personally, I drink tea whatever the temperature, but it turns out even I have a limit on hot drinks when the temperature goes above 30 degrees.

Strange, I picked 0 for beer, but it doesn't seem to be counting any of the 0 responses (for any of the questions, in fact).
Although seeing cider/ginger beer in the beer category, I guess it should be 5-10 instead ...

& by 25, I mean 25+ for wines and spirits anyway. Beer probably is around 25 to 28 bottles of Trooper.
