Date: 2015-03-24 09:03 am (UTC)I got a Samsung digital camera, I don't even remember the model number now, but it wasn't very good. Then, in 2007, I got an Olympus u800 pocket camera for a holiday in Northern Sweden. I found that I started using it everywhere and the Nikons stayed in the camera bag.
Since then I have swapped the Nikon FM2s for a Nikon D3100 that I use whenever I need to take better quality pictures than the Olympus is capable of.
I still use the u800, it went out skiing with me a couple of weeks ago. It's showing it's age, there's a few bumps and scratches on it and the rear display has a few missing pixels after I dropped it onto some tarmac.
I think the moral of this tale is (a) that I don't need any more cameras and (b) that using a pocket camera taught me many things about digital photography.

Date: 2015-03-24 06:42 pm (UTC)Obviously I have an Olympus, thanks to your extreme kindness. Skordh was going to buy me a macro lens or similar, but we haven't got round to it (pertly not getting round to asking your advice!) In your opinion, are any of the bits you are selling things that would be a good addition to my camera and the 2 lenses it has? I'm sure I remember you recommending getting some kind of filter - a daylight filter? - that could live on the lens fairly permanently?

Once I have recovered from the shock, I might be able to reply to your comment ... ;-)
Can you remind me what lenses you have got already? Depending on your answer:
- the 12-60 will give you more range / better quality
- the 70-300 will bring distant objects closer / let you photograph birds etc
- the 135-400 will bring distant objects a *lot* closer / let you photograph far-off (or small) birds etc
- the 30mm has a very large aperture, letting you photograph things in the dark, or give you a very narrow depth of field.
The body may give you slightly better image quality, and would give more features, than your current one.
I largely use filters to protect my lenses - if one gets scratched / broken, it is easier / cheaper to replace. I have several, although I am not sure which (if any) would fit your lenses.
If you ever find yourself running out of battery / memory*, then a spare battery / card might be useful.
*You know what I mean.
