Unlocked posts that start with a photo appear with a cropped version of the photo underneath the heading on the LJ homepage. As the LJ homepage is mostly text, this makes them stand out - and as your first photo is a portrait-format one, it probably wasn't clear what it was from a landscape-format crop only showing the top of the hen - and you didn't give a heading. So I would guess most people who clicked thought 'what on earth is that???' :-D .
( I have had the same thought when I've done photoposts, so I went and looked at the LJ homepage to find out what was so interesting!)
