We went to Scarborough, and we stopped in this windmill.

The next day, we went on a boat trip, where we saw razorbills, puffins and guillemots.

On the Sunday, we went to York, where we drank lots of sherry ...

... found out that meerkats have complicated love lives ...

... and saw a long-eared owl ...

... and some very shiny things, like these.

On Monday, we went to Scarborough castle ...

... and for a ride on this dinky little train ...

... to the Sea Life centre, where we saw these otters sleeping off their lunch.

On Tuesday, we went to Nottingham, which gave us a chance to see Newark Castle.

Wednesday's trip was to Whitby, were there is an abbey.

Thursday saw us on Bempton Cliffs, with gannets on the ground ...

... and in the air.

On Saturday, we went on a tour of Tolkien sites in the area, including this woodland glade where Edith danced for JRR Tolkien ...

... and we saw a few birds that day, too.

And on Sunday we came home via the Royal Armouries in Leeds, where there was a display of sword v axe.

Date: 2016-06-05 12:12 am (UTC)I like the long-eared owl very much.
It's ages since I drank any sherry - I must try to find some.
Scarborough Castle looks beautifully situated.
Nice arch at Whitby!
What was the final decision on sword vs axe?

an honourable draw, I think.
