To the hospital this afternoon, for more work on my eyes.

They are going to use a laser to seal up the leak in my left eye. Yes, that's right, someone is going to go into my eye with a sharp, pointy beam of light. And you know how I feel about sharp pointy things :-(

*hug* Good luck, and think of it as "shiny" not "pointy".

Thanks :-) Ooh, shiny ...

I was thinking similar to emperor, it's not really the same as the pointy things that we don't mention. Pretty colours, too. Always a bonus.

Ever seen "The Shiny Show". Great fun, they have silver bananas as prizes. (It's for kids of about 4, so just my level).

"Come along and have a go, (something else), the Shiny Show"

Have a hospitalisation hug.

Thanks. I wasn't nearly as worked up about a laser - and it was pretty easy, when it came down to it.

I thought I was better and went to work yesterday, which was a mistake. I do seem to be mostly better except that my sinuses and airways have gone from streaming to very dry, which causes some discomfort and doesn't seem to respond to steam inhalation. So I'm staying home again today on the assumption that London pollution won't help, and worrying about the museum losing a few hundred quid if I can't attend the conference tomorrow-Friday, missing Oxonmoot or making matters worse by attending, and getting sinus/postviral complications while in the US that the travel insurance will refuse to cover because I stupidly put off buying it till after I got sick, because of indecision about whether I would make a last-minute appearance to a friend's wedding in Geneva last Friday.

Sorry for that stream-of-consciousness splurt, you did ask ;-) Brought to you by the Harrow branch of Misery Loves Company. Will be thinking of you this afternoon.

Thank you - and no need to apologise.

If you can let me know on / by Friday whether you will be attending Oxonmoot, then I will know whether to bring "Winterfair Gifts".

Oh dear. Being the type that is also not a fan (AT ALL) of sharp, pointy things, you have my complete support. Hope that it goes well, and that your eye is rendered unharmed. :)

Still sore. Going to see the nurse about the stitches later today. I'm dreading it! I know it's not on the same scale as eyes and lasers, but it's major pain and humiliation, and I'm such a coward! I'm only agreeing to go because I'm not as brave as Chainmailmaiden to pick them out myself, and I don't want to be in pain at the weekend.

Hope the stitch removal goes/went ok.

I'm not sure 'brave' is a good description of me, my main motivation was the fact I didn't want to have 6 mile walk and a long wait in the hospital on Christmas Eve. I was paranoid that I'd get some dreadful infection where I'd removed them, over Christmas and end up having to go back anyway. Fortunately I didn't :-)

What they did not tell me before I had it done the first time was that the laser shuts down vision in the eye for a couple of minutes after the treatment finishes. I had a moments panic that they had blinded me. It does come back first as a deep red and slowly the rest of the spectrum. I had little or no pain during the treatment but afterwards it felt like I had been hit in the eye with a blunt object perhaps a thrown tennis ball. Good luck

Have a big hug - hope it went well. You have my total sympathy; I coped quite well with having a hole gouged in the back of my head (where you can't even see what is happening) but having things done to an eye would make me a gibbering wreck.

Thank you - it was a lot easier than I feared it might be!
