Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but aren't you trying to cut down on stuff at the moment...

I have a question for you as a seasoned eBay seller - how do you work out an estimate of P&P charges? I've worked out you must factor in cost of bubble wrap etc, but what about parcel weight & size? Do you use some bathroom scales to do an estimate?

I ask that as when I buy I like to know what the postage will be before I bid for an item!

I've GOT to have a clearout and I have a lot of odd things people might want to buy...the rest can be freecycled.

That's what I've done when I've sold stuff on eBay - set of (kitchen) scales to weigh, cross referenced with the Royal Mail website plus an arbitrary charge to cover the cost of packing materials, then rounded up to the nearest pound.

Having said that, for items that I suspect won't sell for more than a couple of quid, and where the P&P would be less than a pound, I tend to put an arbitrary "Seller's standard postage" of perhaps £2, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

The 'chicken in cornflakes' thing gave me a nasty turn for a moment, when I parsed it as referring to finding some rogue bits of chicken in your morning bowl of cornflakes ;-( I did then work out it must be a cooking method akin to breadcrumbing, though.

No, rest assured that it is the second of these! (Chicken in lemon or lime juice, butter and paprika, then rolled in cornflakes and baked).

No wonder you looked a little tired! Thanks for the tea.
