Incredibly stupid comments from BBC Breakfast:

"Clarence House said that the trip [by Prince William to Afghanistan] was a success, but this was largely because it went without a hitch."

Well yes. If there had been hitches, presumably it wouldn't have been so much of a success.

"Essentially all these genetic conditions are connected with flaws in the genes."

No! You don't say!

Not so stupid an idea IMO - depends how to define success: personally, media-wise, politically, ie. did it have the desired effects? As well as "did it go without a hitch?" Sometimes hitches can spoil something so much that it's not effective and hence no successful, but often hitches are just minor annoyances. Clarence house basically weren't giving the game away of what their definition actually was (good PR and a bit of Wills-education and moral support to fellow troops and a bit of 'showing willing' since he's not allowed to be posted there, probably) :D

Somewhat stupidly put though. The second one was very silly, although some non-scientific bods need the connection pointing out (and there are lots of people like that, who didn't do a lot of science at school for example or didn't "get it" at the time). Also there is a bit more to it isn't there? - a flaw in my genes won't *necessarily* mean I actually have a "genetic condition", and some conditions have some genetic basis but also involve environmental factors too. Hence the word "essentially" I presume.

If this is all you have to complain about today, you must be having a good one ;)

This reminded me that I was meaning the post the announcement the guard on the train I was on on Friday made when we stopped outside Hitchin for a few minutes.

Here it is (http://hmmm-tea.livejournal.com/161248.html)
