Actually, young man, whilst you have some spare time... What would a large thrush-like bird be, mistle thrush? Greyish back, larger than a standard songthrush. Thanks.

Large and thrush-like sounds like mistle thrush to me (at least in this country; I don't know what might be seen in your snowy mountain fastness). They have a paler breast than a song-thrush.
I'd have to catch the critter first. They are quite shy, mostly nocturnal. I see footprints under the chair lifts where they have been looking or dropped food.
