The silver lining from yesterday was meeting a very fine young cat, which was trying to get into my next door neighbour's house. The next door neighbour was trying to keep him out while leaving her front door open - apparently her own cat had objected to the stranger eating her food on the previous day. A very pretty, playful cat, though.

Today
I need to think of good things ...
We had lunch at The Salutation Inn yesterday
We are going inside Stonehenge next Monday
I have read interesting library books on PoW exchanges in WWII (largely arranged through Lisbon) and German / British double agents in WWII (largely making contact with Germany through Lisbon)
The March Ansible has arrived
This white Burgundy is still very pleasant, two days after opening

Sunday
Grandad (Colin Wells) with Ch Woodlark, c1959 - 60.

Saturday
Tolkien slept here: http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/letters/11824442.Follow_the_Tolkien_Trail_at_Mordiford_/
I have booked sleeper tickets south from Inverness. We are aiming to do the whole journey, Bristol - Skye - Harris - Inverness - Bristol surface by public transport (although there may be the odd taxi thrown in, and hire cars on the islands).

Friday
Yes, I know it's the Daily Fail (complete with inaccurate reporting), but there are lots of great photos here.

Electronic Balrog, anyone?

Two Bond films in a few days: On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Dr No. (BTW, if Tracey had lived, would James Bond have been removed from the 00 section?)

My friends, who are always ready with helpful & supportive comments

My lovely wife [livejournal.com profile] adaese, despite her continuing cough! She even started some porridge soaking when she was up in the middle of the night.

We might be going to Slimbridge today

Looking forward to using my new Sandalwood shaving soap from Truefitt & Hill

My sinus infection is - finally! - going.

The good

It's the weekend. This means more time spent with Creatrix, (small) lie ins, more time doing things I want to do like reading, and less time spent worrying about work.

Talking about reading - I have a new edition of works by Saki. This is a nice book in itself, and has prompted me to re-read them, which is always worth doing.

We went over to Woburn yesterday. Suits sorted out, new china bought, pleasant wander round town. We'll gloss over the lunch.

The loft is very slowly getting sorted out after being decorated. (There's still a lot to do, though!)

I opened my new bottle of Highland Park 18 year old yesterday :-)

I've just had a cup of tea. Proper tea (single estate Assam).

[livejournal.com profile] emily_shore posted a link to this, which amused me.

And [livejournal.com profile] niterobin posted a link to this, which also amused me.

The next Temeraire book will soon be out:

And so will the new Al Stewart CD, according to [livejournal.com profile] alstewartfans. (Looking further ahead, he will be touring Britain next spring).

We've had a wonderful holiday on Orkney (which I still need to blog about).

And in August, we're going to Norway.

All of which adds up to Yay!, Squee! and W00t!
