Only a couple, and I don't use them very often.

I have a default filter which I use all the time - mostly it's to screen out certain communities most of the time. I have other filters, but I rarely use most of them.

Someone showed me how to set up feeds and then filter them out most of the time so I get to see just people-friends initially, so my answer to the first point may soon be 'yes'.

I have a half-dozen filters for posting, but not for reading. Most of the time, I'll indicate which filter I'm posting to with a little ::filter:: designation in the post subject line, just so people know that they're seeing something under a specific filter.

I have one or two filters I've asked my flist to "opt into" if they wish for specialized posts.

I've made, I think, two or three posts where I've filtered to those friends who I know personally wouldn't mind what I was talking about (and are unlikely to be my bosses' partner!).

I am afraid I am boring most of you stupid (well, boring you ever so slightly less intelligent) with some of my posts. Sorry.

I mostly use my filters for reading - though I've very occasionally posted to a TS filter, or one for people I know personally.

For reading, I separate out people I know, from other personal journals that I read for fanfic or other fandom stuff, and from communities.

That way if I don't have time to read everything I can keep up with the people who are likely to care that I'm reading, and catch up on the communities later.

One of mine is called "Two cute fat men". You can probably guess from that who is on it. :-)

The honest answer for me - which doesn't quite seem to fit any of your tickyboxes - is "I don't know!" I played about with various things early on (I nearly said "before I understood them", but I still don't...), so I may have set something up; I'm just not sure. As things seem to be running OK as they are, I don't think I'll bother to try and find out.

I occasionally filter my reading list into friends and communities - just so I can quickly see what my friends have been up to without having to scroll past too much community stuff.

I don't use filters for writing any more. I have a policy of not putting it on the internet if its not for the eyes of the general public, these days. Any day LJ could be hacked and locked posts opened to the world...

I have a few set up but rarely use them as I don't like the way Lj's filters work for reading.

I've occasionally used them for posting when I want to essentially use LJ as a substitute for email.

Although in general I agree with clarienne: don't put it on the internet if you want it private, I find I often have a class of post that is not really private, but that I don't particularly want appearing in Google either, and a basic friendslock suffices for those.

The way search engines handle blogging engines is to highly prioritise novelty, so generally, if these posts did later become public it wouldn't be a problem . Of course I could just exclude bots from the journal entirely, but I don't particularly want to do that either as I find it handy to be able to search my own posts sometimes.

I have one (this is confession time but it's not you or anyone on your flist, promise!) because I friended someone who is interesting - we comment on each others journals often - BUT who has phases of mega-whinging and is a dreadful hypochondriac. So if I'm feeling a bit tired/busy I can't be bothered with it, and have one filter that excludes the misery poster.

Other: I don't use filters for reading (doubtless why I'm always so behind!) but do have a couple of very specific ones that I very very occasionally post with (rl friends for personal stuff esp about the boys.)
